Dear readers,

On 9 February 2010, the FEI decided that Rollkur/hyperflexion is always connected to aggressive riding and is therefore unacceptable. The “Low-Deep-Round” technique is permitted, however. The original English FEI press release can be found here. The term “LDR” was coined by Dutch trainer and husband of Anky van Grunsven, Sjef Janssen.

To my mind, the FEI simply swapped expressions – instead of “Rollkur/Hyperflexion”, it’s now called “LDR”. But will this change something in practice? I fear it won’t.

The FEI will now establish working groups to expand the current guidelines for stewards, for instance, to clear up the difference between LDR and Rollkur. We’re very curious to see their results!

I would like to thank you all very much: Countless people have not only signed the petition, but also spread the link. It was only thanks to your help that we could gather  26.271  signatures within of only 14 days. In this way, more than 41.000 signatures were collected all over the world and handed over at the experts’ meeting to FEI President Haya.

Thanks to you all for you efforts, your energy and the trust you invested in this petition. Your dedication made no-rollkur.com the world’s largest petition against rollkur/hyperflexion. Thank you! – for the horses need all our help to ensure that such torturous riding methods are proscribed.

The petition is now closed, because I think it dubious to slightly modify the text and take over the signatures collected so far. You can of course still appreciate the overall result and the comments, which will remain online.
